You Can’t Walk Through a Starbucks without Tripping over a Lean Entrepreneur
The lean entrepreneurship memes – “get out of the building,” “validate your hypotheses,” “minimum viable product,” – are now mainstream assumptions in the startup world.
Implementing them though, is another story. In practice, these new ideas rapidly collapse into old ideas. “Get out of the building” becomes “talk to customers,” “validate your hypotheses” becomes “ask them what they want,” and “minimum viable product” becomes “be frugal.” Almost no one in business disagrees with those ideas – or gets much value out of hearing them again.
Startup Engineering isn’t an alternative to the customer discovery/lean entrepreneurship model; it’s an implementation of the model – a way of putting these new concepts into a new kind of practice in order to get real value out of them.
